The Rev. Dolan A. Talbert was the third child born to the late Alex and Thelma Talbert. He was born in Albemarle, N.C., where he grew up as an active member of the Congregational Christian Church (later to become a UCC Church).
Dolan graduated from Elon College (University) with a B.A. in Religion. He continued his studies at Southeastern Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C., where he earned a Master’s of Divinity degree. Dolan also earned a Certificate in Pastoral Clinical Education from the Baptist Hospital and the Bowman Gray School of Medicine, both in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Rev. Talbert was licensed in 1962 at Shiloh Christian Church, in Shiloh, N.C. He was ordained February 26, 1967 at Bethlehem Christian Church, in Altamahaw, N.C.
Rev. Talbert has served churches in N.C. and Virginia, beginning in February 1959. Churches he has served in his nearly 48 years of ministry are:

Since his retirement in 1995, Rev. Talbert served as interim for Seagrove Christian, Seagrove, N.C. and St. John’s UCC at Kannapolis, N.C.
Having moved to Suffolk, Va., in 2001, following his oldest son, Michael’s death in 2000, Rev. Talbert accepted the call to interim pastor for Holy Neck UCC in December of 2001. He was voted as full-time interim as of July, 2002, a position he continues to serve joyfully.
Dolan has been married to Shirley for 55 years as of October 6, 2006. They have been blessed with four wonderful children: Michael (Mike)--now deceased, Mark (Kristi), of Wake Forest, N.C., Marissa (Larry) and Myron of Suffolk, Va. They also are blessed with 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
